Change Your Username

You can change both your WordPress.com account username (the name you use to login) and your display name (the name that is seen on your posts and comments).

Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. If you just want to show your name differently please only change your Display Name.

Change Display Name (Nickname)

  1. Access your User Profile
  2. Change the value next to Display name publicly as under Basic Details
  3. Click Update Profile.

Change Username

  1. Log into WordPress.com using your existing username
  2. Access your Personal Settings and click the “Change” link next to your username under Account Details.
  3. Read the information presented on this page very carefully. Important:You will not be able to change your username back. The old name will be reserved and no one will have access to it. URLs for other services such as Gravatar and IntenseDebate may be affected.
  4. Enter your desired username in the two fields to confirm that this is the username you would like to use, and click Continue.
  5. The next step will allow you to change or create a matching blog address:
    • If your current username matches your blog address:
      • Selecting “Change example.wordpress.com to match my new username and discard the old address” will change the address of your current blog. If your new user name is newusername, your blog’s address will be changed to newusername.wordpress.com
      • Selecting “Change example.wordpress.com to match my new username and create an empty blog with the old address” will change the address of your current blog (if your new user name is newusername, your blog’s address will be changed to newusername.wordpress.com), and create an empty blog for your old blog address.
    • Selecting “Create a new blog to match my new user name” will create a new blog for you. If your new user name is newusername, the new blog will be newusername.wordpress.com
    • Selecting “No, don’t create a matching blog address” will just change your username and make no changes to the address of your blog.
  6. Click Review my changes and you will be presented with a summary of the changes you requested. If all the details look correct you can submit the changes.

Once you’ve done all of that you’ll be rocking WordPress.com with your new username.
