Change Name Servers »Point a WordPress.com Domain to GoDaddy

This guide explains how to point a domain registered with WordPress.com to a site hosted by GoDaddy.

1) Sign in to your GoDaddy account, and go to Hosting & SSL > Manage Your Hosting.

2) Click the Settings button for your site.

3) Click the Add Domain button.

4) On the Add Domain window:

  • Select Enter a domain or subdomain.
  • Enter the domain you registered on WordPress.com.
  • Make a note of the A record address provided by GoDaddy. You will need it to configure your DNS settings on WordPress.com.
  • Check the box that says Make this the primary domain for your account.
  • Finally, click Add.

5) On WordPress.com, go to My Domains.

6) Make sure the domain is your primary domain.

7) Click on the Edit button for your domain, and then Edit DNS.

8) Click on the edit icon for the A record item.godaddy-wpcom-edit-a-record

9) Confirm that you do want to edit the A record by clicking OK.

10) Add a new A record:

  • Type in your WordPress.com domain.
  • Type in the IP address GoDaddy provided.
  • Click the Add button.
  • Click Save Changes.

11) If you specified on GoDaddy that you want to use “www” for your domain, you’ll also need to add a CNAME record that points to your domain:

  • From Edit DNS, under Add New DNS Record, select CNAME from the drop-down.
  • Type www in the first field.
  • Type your domain in the second field.
  • Click the Add button.
  • Click the Save Changes.
