Tag Listings
The Global Tag Listings at WordPress.com aggregate all published posts attached to any particular tag or category. You can view our primary tag page at http://wordpress.com/tags/, which displays our most popular topics. If something you are interested in is not included there, you can still access its global tag listing. Simply change the tag in the URL and use a “-” to represent any spaces in the topic. Here are some examples:
http://wordpress.com/tag/cheese/
http://wordpress.com/tag/rain/
http://wordpress.com/tag/bill-gates/
http://wordpress.com/tag/chocolate/
http://wordpress.com/tag/peanut-butter/
http://wordpress.com/tag/caffeine/
http://wordpress.com/tag/master-chief/
Note: Although the URL includes “tag”, the global tag listings also include categories.
Missing Posts
If you have published a new post and it isn’t showing up in the global tag listings for the tag and categories that you’ve used, there are several possible explanations:
1. You are using too many categories or tags. You don’t want irrelevant content showing up in the tag surfer or search, and neither do we. That’s why we limit the number of tags that can be used on a public tag listing. Five to 10 tags (or categories, or a combination of the two) is a good number to add to each of your posts. The more tags you use, the less likely it is that your post will be selected for inclusion in the global tag listings.
2. Your blog is private. Check the Settings -> Privacy tab of your dashboard. You must choose the first option, I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, for your blog to be included in global tag listings.
3. Your blog is mature or offensive. If you regularly post material that is offensive, not safe for work, or not suitable for minors, we might have flagged your blog as mature. Mature blogs are not included in the global tag lists. Please contact support if you think your blog might have unfairly been flagged as mature.
4. You are misusing the global tag feature. If you’ve been regularly using the Knitting tag on posts about Britney’s latest scandal, using misleading or irrelevant tags, or posting affiliate links, marketing material, duplicate or low quality content – your blog might have been excluded from global tag listings for a while. If you think this might be the case, please make sure you’re aware of our policies regarding quality content and try to use appropriate tags and categories. Your blog will automatically be re-included in the lists after you have regularly posted with appropriate tags for a while.
5. Your blog is very new. It can take a few days before new blogs are included in the global tag listings. Brand new blogs might not have enough posts for us to accurately determine whether or not it’s spam.
