To use an image from PicApp in your blog post, visit PicApp.com, search for an image, and then look for the WordPress.com shortcode, like this one of the crew from the Daily Show at the Emmys:

PicApp-WPCOM-Shortcode-640

Select one of the sizes and then copy the embed code. Once you paste the code into your post and publish, it will look like this:
[picapp src="8/c/c/6/61st_Annual_Primetime_bc4f.jpg?adImageId=4458985&imageId=6559851" width="500" height="378" /]

You can change the size of the image by modifying the “width” and “height” parameters in the Shortcode. Just be sure to keep the proportion the same to avoid a skewed image.

For example
[picapp src="8/c/c/6/61st_Annual_Primetime_bc4f.jpg?adImageId=4458985&imageId=6559851" width="500" height="378" /]
can be modified to be half the size:
[picapp src="8/c/c/6/61st_Annual_Primetime_bc4f.jpg?adImageId=4458985&imageId=6559851" width="250" height="189" /]

and the result:

So you may be asking yourself, “What’s the catch? Premium images that are usually paid for, are now available for free on WordPress.com?”

Great question! The answer: no “catch”, but the way these photographers and agencies get compensated is when a visitor to your blog clicks on the related images ( those thumbnails images at the bottom of the photo ), the subsequent pages that are loaded on picapp.com display a couple of ads, and that advertising revenue pays the photographers who took these images. Your visitors can click the small arrow on the right to hide the related images.

The smaller thumbnail images are available from PicApp as JPG images with no related-images strip. You can also grab the smallest sized image embed which displays a simple “Gallery” icon link like this:
