Onswipe Theme for iPad

Onswipe displays a beautiful app-like experience to visitors who view your site with an iPad. It supports touch interactions, swiping, and rotation.

To customize your Onswipe iPad settings, head to Appearance -> iPad in your dashboard.

Check the box next to “Display a special theme for iPad users” to activate Onswipe.

Cover Display

Click the cover display dropdown if you’d like to use an image from a recent post on your cover page.

Here’s what a cover page looks like when Onswipe is activated:

Here’s what the same site  looks like on an iPad when Onswipe is NOT activated (this example shows the Twenty Ten theme):

Cover Logo

If you decide to show a cover, you can also upload a cover logo that will be displayed on the upper right hand corner of the page.

For example:

Home Screen Icon

Readers can add your site to their iPad’s Home screen for quick access from an app-like icon. When someone does so, they’ll see a message like this:

Then your site’s blavatar will be added the their iPad’s Home screen. If you don’t have a blavatar set, the WordPress logo will be displayed.

Here’s how the icon appears on an iPad Home screen:

Launch Screen Image

The launch screen image is briefly displayed after your site is opened from an iPad home screen icon, before the cover image appears. It needs to be a PNG of exactly 768 x 1004 pixels.

Here’s an example:

Font and Accent Color

Lastly, select a font and accent color.

Here’s an example of a green accent color:

And gray looks like this:

Note that the accent color is only active for your front page headers and post titles on individual post views. Your posts’ text will display in black on a white background.

Be sure to save your settings when you’re done!

View Your Onswipe Settings Without an iPad

If you don’t have an iPad, you can still see how your site appears with the Onswipe theme by changing a few settings in your browser (with the exception of the launch screen image, which can only be launched from an iPad Home screen icon).

In Safari, go to Safari -> Preferences and under the Advanced tab, check the box next to “Show develop menu in menu bar.” The Develop tab will appear at the top of your browser. Then select Develop –> User Agent –> Mobile Safari 3.2.2 — iPad. Now when you visit yoursite.wordpress.com, you’ll see how it appears to iPad readers.

You can also do this with Firefox by adding the User Agent Switcher extension.
