Screen Options

You may have noticed the Screen Options pull down in the upper right corner of your Dashboard.

It can be used to show/hide modules on some screen and show/hide columns on other screens. When you click on Screen Options, it will drop down an area listed the different things you can show or hide. Uncheck a box to hide something and check it again to show it. Here is an example of Screen Options to show/hide modules on the Post Screen:

Here is an example to show/hide columns on the Media Library screen:

As you can see, there isn’t any different in how the pull down area looks depending on if you are showing/hiding modules or columns.

After you are done making changes, click Screen Options again and the pull down area will disappear from the view.

Modules

Here is a list of all of the screens and the modules that can be hidden:

  • Dashboard – Right Now, Recent Comments, Incoming Links, Your Stuff, What’s Hot, QuickPress, Recent Drafts, Stats
  • Post – Post Tags, Categories, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Post Slug, Post Author
  • Page – Categories, Tags, Publish, Attributes, Discussion, Page Slug, Page Author
  • Link – Categories, Target Link, Relationship (XFN), Advanced

Columns

Here is a list of all of the list view screens and the columns that can be hidden:

  • Edit Posts – Author, Categories, Tags, Stats, Comments, Date
  • Edit Links – URL, Categories, rel, Visible
  • Edit Pages – Author, Comments, Date
  • Edit Comments – Author, In Response To
  • Link Categories – Description, Links
  • Media Library – Author, Attached to, Comments, Date
  • Categories – Description, Posts
  • Tags – Posts

Saving Screen Options

You don’t have to worry about saving any of your Screen Options. WordPress saves your configuration automatically for your in a cookie on your computer and in the database so that when you use another browser or a different computer, everything will look the same.
