Warning: after cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back. Keep in mind that you do have the option to keep the domain at WordPress.com, and use it elsewhere, see our alternatives in the below sections.
You can cancel a domain registered through WordPress.com:
- within two days of purchase and receive a full refund. To cancel, please log into your account and go to Purchases. Click Cancel next to the domain you wish to cancel.
- after two days from the purchase date, you can remove the domain from Purchases, but not receive a refund.
- If your domain is part of a plan, you will have to remove the plan before you can remove the domain. If your intention is to separate the plan and the domain, you’ll want to contact support.
Important note: The cancellation link sent to your the email address in your account is only valid for 24 hours. If you click and see an error, please contact us.
Using Other Web Hosting
The name servers for your domain control where traffic for the domain goes. If your domain was registered through WordPress.com, you may change the name servers to point somewhere else at any time.
Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar
If you would like to transfer your domain to another registrar, you must wait 60 days from the registration date. This is standard across all registrars and is a rule set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). In addition, you may also need to wait 60 days after changing the contact information associated with domain registration.
