Comment Notification Email

Enabling comment notifications means the post author will receive an email whenever someone leaves a comment on a post they have written. These notifications will be sent to the author’s account email address.

Enabling Comment Notification Emails

Comment notification emails can be enabled from My SitesManageSettingsDiscussion. You can choose to receive an email for every comment or just those held for moderation.

The information in comment notification emails includes:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Email address
  • Comment contents
  • URL
  • IP address
  • Comment
  • Links to approve, bin or mark the comment as spam

Receiving and Moderating Comment Notifications

Different user roles have different permissions when it comes to receiving and moderating comments:

Contributors

  • Don’t receive any comment notifications.
  • Can’t moderate any comments.

Authors

  • Can only receive comment notifications for posts where they are the author.
  • Can only moderate comments for posts where they are the author.

Editors

  • Can receive comment notifications only for posts for which they’re the “author”.
  • Can moderate any comments.

Site owners

  • Can receive comment notifications for all posts.
  • Can moderate any comments.

Other site Administrators will not receive comment notifications unless they have written the post or follow the site and opted-in to receive notifications for all comments on the site.

Followers

Following the site will only launch notification emails for published comments, not comments in the moderation queue.

Replying to Comment Notification Emails

You cannot reply directly to the comment notification emails. These emails are sent from a “donotreply” email address. It’s currently only possible to reply to comments from My SitesSiteComments.

Not Receiving Comment Notification Emails

There are a few things to check if you are not receiving comment notifications emails:

  1. Make sure you are the author of the post where comments are being left.
  2. Email notifications are turned on in My Sites → ManageSettingsDiscussion.
  3. Check your spam/junk folder.

If you are still having trouble, please contact support for help and include an example of a post URL you expected to receive a comment notification for.
