Upgrading Subscriptions

You can upgrade your WordPress.com plan at any time by visiting wordpress.com/plans. Click Upgrade below the plan you’d like and you’ll be taken to a page to complete your purchase.

When you upgrade an existing paid subscription in between billing cycles, WordPress.com uses pro-rated billing. In other words, you will not be charged the full amount of the plan that you upgraded or added. Instead, you will receive a credit for the unused portion of your current subscription, and that credit will be applied towards your upgrade. The full price of your upgrade will be charged in the following billing cycle.

Here’s an example when upgrading from a one-year WordPress.com Personal subscription to a one-year WordPress.com Business subscription two months after purchasing the Personal plan (prices shown in USD):

First, to get the amount remaining on your current plan:

Full cost of Personal plan at $48 for 12 months / 12 = $4 monthly rate. Multiply $4 by 10 (the number of months remaining on your Personal subscription) to get $40. This is the amount that will be credited towards your upgrade to Business.

Finally, to calculate the final price you would pay to upgrade to Business:

Full price of Business at $299 for 12 months – $40 (amount remaining on your current subscription) = $259.

At your next renewal for WordPress.com Business you would pay the full Business price of $299.

Auto Renew

All upgrades are setup to be automatically renewed by default.  We’ll send you notification emails before charging your card, however we do automatically renew upgrades 30 days before their expiration date. Why? Since letting an upgrade expire may result in unwanted changes to your site or loss of domains, we want to ensure that everything is taken care of in advance.

If you prefer to renew your upgrades manually and wish to have Auto Renew disabled, please contact support for assistance.Even though your upgrade is auto-renewed 30 days before it expires, you will get the full 12 months with each upgrade.
