Setting up your Premium Services

Just as we offer many special features for WordPress.com sites, we offer a number of Premium Services for self-hosted WordPress sites. Learn more about the difference between WordPress.com sites and self-hosted WordPress sites.

In this guide, we will walk you through the process of setting up the Premium Services you have purchased for your self-hosted site:

Setting up Akismet

Akismet is an advanced anti-service aimed at stopping comment and contact form spam.

You can activate Akismet from your blog’s dashboard by following these steps. If you already have Akismet installed you can skip directly to step 5.

    1. First, get the Akismet plugin by going to Plugins > Add New:
      plugins-add-new
    2. Type in Akismet in the search box and click Search Plugins:
      ak-search
    3. Usually the first search result is right. Make sure the plugin’s author is Automattic, and click on Install Now:

      You’ll see a pop-up asking if you’re sure you want to install the plugin, click Ok. If you already have the plugin installed, you won’t see the Install Now link, it’ll say Installed instead. In that case, you can proceed directly to step 5.
    4. On the next page, click on Activate Plugin:

  1. After the plugin has been activated, go to Jetpack → Akismetjetpack-akismet
  2. Click on Use this Akismet account:

Akismet is now keeping your site spam-free!

Setting up VaultPress

VaultPress is a powerful services that helps to keep your self-hosted WordPress site safe and sound. It performs regular backups, and for select plans, scans your site for security issues.

You can activate VaultPress from your blog’s dashboard by following these steps. If you already have VaultPress installed you can skip directly to step 5.

  1. In your dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New:
    add-new-plugin
  2. Search for VaultPress and click on Search Plugins:
    install-plugin
  3. Locate the VaultPress plugin in the Search Results, and click Install Now:

  4. On the next page, click on Activate Plugin:
    activate-vp
  5. After the plugin has been activated, go to Jetpack → VaultPress:jetpack-vaultpress-tab
  6. Paste the registration key that we sent you via email into the box and click Register:registration-key-vp

VaultPress is now backing up your site! It can take up to a day or so for the first backup to complete. Don’t worry though, your subsequent backups will be faster.

Setting up Polldaddy

Polldaddy makes it simple to build beautiful polls, surveys, and quizzes for your self-hosted WordPress site.

You can access Polldaddy in a couple steps.

  1. Go to Polldaddy.com
  2. Sign in with your WordPress.com username and password.

You can now create awesome polls, ratings, and surveys!
