A Site Icon (or “Blavatar”) is a unique icon for your site. It is shown across WordPress.com, in your visitor’s browser tab, in widgets like Blogs I Follow, and as a bookmark or home screen app icon when saved to a browser or phone.
The image must be square, and at least 512 pixels wide and tall.
Here are several examples:
Add or Change a Site Icon
You can upload a custom site icon by going to My Site → Settings, and in the General tab, click on the Change button:
Your Media Library will be shown. You can either select an existing image or upload a new one. Remember the recommended minimum size of 512 pixels wide and tall. Once you’ve selected an image, click Continue.
Next, because a Site Icon should be square, you’ll be prompted to optionally crop the image to your liking. Use the corner handles to resize the bounding box, or reposition the box by dragging it. When finished, click Done.
If you edited the image, it will first be uploaded before saving your new settings. You should see a spinner indicating that your new icon is being uploaded. You’ll know that the icon is ready when you see a notice confirming that your settings have been successfully saved.
Please note it may take a few hours before you see your new site icon. In case the icon does not update, you can also try clearing your browser’s local cache.
Remove a Site Icon
You can remove a custom site icon by going to My Site → Settings, and in the General tab, click on the Remove button:
At this point you will be asked to confirm the removal. Once accepted, you should see that your icon is now removed and a notice will be shown confirming that your settings have been successfully saved.
