Adding Storage Space

All WordPress.com sites come with 3 GB of space for uploaded files and images. Upgrading to a WordPress.com Plan comes with additional space depending on the plan.

Additional Storage with Plan Upgrades

WordPress.com Personal includes another 3 GB of extra storage, for a total of 6 GB.
WordPress.com Premium includes another 10 GB of extra storage, for a total of 13 GB.
WordPress.com Business and eCommerce includes 200 GB of total storage space.

For customers with the Business plan or higher; VideoPress files do not count against your storage limit. Click here to learn more about VideoPress.

You will need a subscription to one of these plans in order to upload certain file types (audio, video and zip files).

If you run out of space or would like to upload other types of files, you can upgrade to a higher plan. Additionally, some alternatives are:

  • Use an external hosting service such as Flickr or YouTube, and embed remote images and videos.
  • Upload to a dedicated file hosting or file sharing service.

Checking for Remaining Space

You can see your remaining space under My Site → Site → Media.

Removing Files to Free Space

To remove files visit My Site(s) → Site → Media, select the file you want to delete, and click on the trash icon.

Deleted files cannot be recovered. If the file is being used in a blog post or page on your site, the file will also be permanently deleted from that post or page.

Does the additional storage space apply to all my sites, or just one?

WordPress.com Personal, WordPress.com Premium, and WordPress.com Business only apply to the site for which they were purchased

Can I cancel my plan? And what happens to my files if I do?

You can cancel your plan from the Manage Purchases page. Plans canceled within 30 days of purchase are eligible for full refunds.

Files that you have already uploaded won’t be deleted and will remain accessible, but you will not be able to upload new files until you resubscribe to the plan or have storage space available within the Free plan storage limit.

How do I upload files?

Here are step-by-step instructions for uploading files.

What kind of files can I upload?

Free blogs can upload images (jpg, jpeg, png, gif), documents (pdf, doc, docx, odt), presentations (ppt, pptx, pps, ppsx) and spreadsheets (xls, xlsx).

Blogs with WordPress.com Personal, WordPress.com Premium or WordPress.com Business can also upload audio (mp3, m4a, wav, ogg) and zip files, and blogs with WordPress.com Premium or WordPress.com Business can upload video (mp4, m4v, mov, wmv, avi, mpg, ogv, 3gp, 3g2) files.

Is there a limit on file size?

We recommend using individual file sizes up to 1 GB. Remember, uploading big files can take a long time.

Is there a limit on transfers, bandwidth, or downloads?

No.
