The video block allows you to upload and embed video into your post or page. Currently, the video block is only supported on plans that use VideoPress.

Adding a Video

When you add a video block you will be prompted with three options to add your content:

  • Upload: Allows you to upload a new video file from your computer.
  • Media Library: Lets you select a file that’s already uploaded to your site’s Media Library.
  • Insert from URL: Allows you to insert a URL from a supported block type, such as YouTube. The video block will automatically transform into a YouTube block.
Links added to the video block from external services will transform into their respective block.

Once the video is embedded in the page, you can add an optional caption if desired.

Block Interface

Every block comes with unique toolbar icons and block specific user controls that allow you to manipulate the block right in the editor.

Alignment

As with the image block, the video block can be inline-aligned with a the paragraph below it by clicking the left-align or right align icons.

If you wish for the video to be emphasized on the page, the Wide and Full Alignment options will expand the video beyond the bounding column of the page, providing a cinematic experience.

Edit Video

The edit option in the video block’s toolbar will allow you to select a new video file for your block. Use this if you need to replace the video file in your video block.

Every block has specific options in the editor sidebar in addition to the options found in the block toolbar. If you do not see the sidebar, simply click the ‘cog’ icon next to the Publish button.

The Video Block does not have any additional options at this time.

Advanced

The advanced tab lets you add a CSS class to your block, allowing you to write custom CSS and style the block as you see fit.

Choosing a Thumbnail

Please note, changing thumbnails for uploaded videos is currently not available for sites on our Business plan with plugins installed.

To choose the thumbnail for a video that is uploaded to our VideoPress service:

1. Go to My Site → Media

2. Select the video you want, then click the edit button.

3. Select Edit Thumbnail

4. Scroll through the video until you find frame the frame you want, then select Select Frame. Alternatively, you can choose Upload Image to choose an image you’ve created on your computer.

VideoPress

VideoPress is a lightweight and responsive video player that allows you to host and embed videos in your site and more. If you upload a video to a video block, or by dragging and dropping a video into your post or page, it automatically becomes hosted with VideoPress
